Home Appeals Oral Healthcare In Greece

We work in partnership with Crisis Management Association (CMA) which is a Greek non-profit organisation that focuses on meeting the healthcare related needs of refugees, asylum seekers and their host communities.

CMA operates a dental clinic on the island of Lesvos, Greece.

Everyone who arrives on Lesvos has come from Turkey by boat. Often people must make this 8km journey in rubber dinghies and sometimes people will attempt to cross more than a dozen times. Every refugee who arrives in Lesvos is sent to the camp, where they will remain for months or years. Most of them are from Afghanistan, Somalia, Sierra Leone, Congo DRC and Eritrea.

The dental clinic was set up as a response to the need for emergency dental treatment for the refugees of Lesvos. Currently there is increased pressure on the local health care system. Due to the lack of dental care inside the camps, many people have tooth aches or infections. The dental clinic is fully equipped and dental care is provided free of charge to any refugee, asylum seeker or Greek or international staff working in the camp in need from Monday to Friday. The clinic is staffed by fully licensed and qualified international volunteer dentists and our on the ground team of interpreters and trained dental assistants.

We support CMA by recruiting volunteer dentists who are able to donate their time and expertise to this incredibly important project. There is no minimum time commitment for volunteer dentists, and have facilities for two dentists to work in the clinic at any given time. If you would like to find out more about volunteering as a dentist or dental assistant/ nurse, please contact us.
